About the Program
Our approach to language instruction is rooted in both classical methods and the latest research on second language acquisition. A solid grasp of the rules of grammar and morphology is indispensable to building fluency in Arabic, but it is not enough on its own. We teach Arabic as a living language and emphasize both written and verbal communication. In the course of a full academic year, this approach enables students to have a grasp of the language that is natural and intuitive. Classroom hours are divided evenly between conversation and listening, readings in classical texts and formal instruction in the rules of grammar and morphology.
The Daily Experience
Spiritual transformation is the heart of Tayseer’s educational philosophy. Students in the Arabic Intensive program will have the opportunity to participate fully in a wide variety of activities that supplement the classroom experience, including daily dhikr, spiritual retreats, field trips and hikes, and activities in the broader Knoxville Muslim community. They will also attend a small number of classes on the Islamic sciences that run in parallel to the Arabic Intensive.
